Exact Roctane intake depends on the intensity of your pursuit and your body weight and fitness level. The fitter you are and the more you are used to consuming carbohydrate during exercise and the more Roctane you can eat each hour, up to approximately 340 total calories including gels, solids and drinks.

Combine Roctane Energy Gel with Roctane Energy Drink, original GU Energy Gel, GU Electrolyte Brew and GU Recovery Brew for the ultimate in sports hydration, fueling and recovery. Take one gel 15 minutes before training or competition and then one gel every 30-45 minutes during exercise. Drink Roctane Energy Drink or Electrolyte Brew throughout your training or racing, and drink Recovery Brew within 30 minutes after you’ve stopped.

Why does Roctane Drink cost more than Electrolyte Brew?

Roctane Energy Drink has many extra ingredients compared to electrolyte brew that increase production costs. These include most of the ingredients that make it like nothing else on the market – a special maltodextrin to increase energy density and improve consistency, caffeine and taurine, beta-alanine, histidine and branched chain amino acids.

What role does beta alanine and caffeine play in Roctane Energy Drink?

Beta-alanine is used to supplement the athlete’s diet to increase muscle buffering capacity. Beta-alanine is one of the limiting components of an abundant muscle protein called carnosine that help buffer changes in muscle pH during exercise. It has been shown that supplementing beta-alanine can help increase muscle carnosine content, and therefore increase muscle buffering capacity and the ability to minimize changes in muscle pH during intense efforts over lactate threshold.

Caffeine has been shown in many studies to increase exercise performance. Whether the performance task was short or long – caffeine helps athletes perform at their best. It can help increase performance by decreasing perceived effort as well as helping athletes maintain focus and concentration.

Why is taurine good for endurance sports?

Several studies have shown that during prolonged exercise (half Ironman and Ironman events), the ability of the heart to pump blood (myocardial contractility) is decreased, which can lead to decreased exercise capacity. Similarly, prolonged exercise also promotes skeletal muscle fatigue. Taurine helps to maintain heart and muscle function by helping with calcium handling and may help decrease fatigue in these tissues during prolonged exercise. Additionally, taurine has been shown to increase muscle function with aging, and when combined with caffeine increases performance during a 1 hour cycling time trial.

Will I get dehydrated from caffeine in a sports drink?

A key question regarding caffeine in a sports drink revolves around the well known diuretic effect of caffeine to promote dehydration. Several studies have shown that caffeine ingestion during exercise does not influence weight loss, sweat rates, urine output and plasma volume compared to water alone. This may be due to decreased kidney blood flow during exercise which is proportional to exercise intensity, which minimizes urine production. Therefore, it appears that caffeine will not lead to diuresis if consumed during exercise – and will not contribute to dehydration.

    I have been using roctaine and for training and racing. I am very happy with my preformance using roctaine. If all I need is two bottles, I have my first bottle filled with roctaine the first hour and a bottle of water along with a GU gel the second hour. Grape is my flavor of choice since I am caffeine free. I enjoy the grape flavor! Thanks GU!

    I've used Roctane Endurance Drink in numerous ultra marathons and iron distance triathlons. Hands down the best stuff out there! The grape is BY FAR the best flavor and beats those "popular" brand sports drinks hands down. I'm not sure how it does it but Roctane gives me that extra boost when I need it most. I won't put anything else in my bottles!!!

    I love the grape Roctane drink! It goes down easy on rides and tastes great when mixed with other flavors of Roctane drink and also Gu brew. Pick up a mix of flavors and experiment you won't be disappointed :)

    I have tried numerous other Endurance Drinks out there. The Roctane is by far the best I have ever tried. It is lighter than the other drinks and doesn't overpower you with flavor. My favorite flavor is fruit punch. It greatly aids in my performance and my recovery times. This drink has allowed me to run longer distances, day after day, with little to no fatigue. It is not a miracle drink by any means, but with proper training, this drink WILL improve your performace. I have been using it for three months now and my weekly mileage has jumped from 25 miles/week to 40+ miles/week and my legs have never felt better. I normally don't write reviews, but I had to for such a great product.

    I mix one scoop of Blueberry Pomegranate with one scoop of Tropical Fruit Roctane and it is the most heavenly experience of a lifetime. The Tropical fruit Roctane definitely packs a punch when it comes to energy, especially on the high intensity races or long grueling training rides. I use this for training and racing at the CAT 1 level and my results are consistent. Wouldn't use anything else as the taste and light consistency beats out anything (HEED...blahh).

    My 13yo son is a top ranked national tennis player who until now only drank water on the court because the "popular" sports drinks made him feel sick and left him thirstier. Eating bananas or energy bars didn't work either because he does not have an appetite to eat when playing/training hard. I am so happy we finally found something better than water that works! Now my son doesn't waste away and fade at the end of long matches or practices, now his weight doesn't plummet as he can nourish himself while on the court for hours. He looks healthier, feels better and is stronger. So happy!!!!

    Before I tried Gu Roctane Drink, I had never experienced a nausea-free ride during the bike portion of an Ironman. Since I started using Roctane drink, I've never looked back. For the last three years, it's the only energy drink light enough in taste that it doesn't leave an annoying sugary taste in my mouth - and it digests well so it never sits in my stomach to cause bloating. If I need extra calories, I can add them seamlessly with Roctane gel. But the most amazing thing is getting enough fuel without feeling sick at all for the entire bike leg and being able to transition to my run without stomach issues. I can't thank Gu enough for this.

    I tried the Grape Roctane while hiking Mount Whitney this past summer. I was surprised at how good it tasted and how much energy I had. When we got to the 99 switchbacks, I had no problem getting through it. I really think the Roctane helped a lot. The only draw back was I was farting the whole way up. My stomach was a mess! Either my girlfriends couldn't keep up, or they were staying back from the funky smell I was leaving behind. With that being said, I highly recommend Roctane. A few bad odors shouldn't stop anyone from reaching thier goals! Ha!

    I have been racing MTB for a number of years, and have tried most every common mix out there. Roctane is the only one that I have used that didn't result in stomach issues at one point or another. The flavor is perfect, not too strong, not too weak. I use Grape and Punch because they remind me of Kool-aid. This stuff doors for ~1 hour sprints to 100 mile races.
