GU Brew

New GU Brew is about electrolytes first, then carbohydrates. But carbs are key to endurance nutrition so we take them seriously. We use a 50:50 ratio of fructose (simple) and maltodextrin (complex) carbs because carbs in this combination increase the amount of energy available to muscles.

GU Brew is naturally flavored with an ultralight taste profile for great drinkability prized by hardworking athletes.

Usage

GU Brew focuses more on hydration and less on carbohydrate delivery, offering 70 calories per serving. This 3% carbohydrate solution provides added flexibility to the athlete. Mix it as instructed for rapid absorption or combine with your favorite GU/Roctane gel for increased energy density during longer workout days. For athletes looking for a more energy dense carbohydrate solution, try Roctane Energy Drink.

Hydration before exercise:

To ensure proper pre-exercise hydration, consume approximately 16-24 oz. (470-720 ml) of GU Electrolyte Brew within an hour of the start of your workout.

Rehydration during exercise:

Fluid replacement should approximate sweat and urine losses during exercise and is dependent on many environmental factors. Generally, it is required to consume 7-10 oz. of fluids (200-300 ml) every 10 to 20 minutes during exercise, but specific individual recommendations are based on exercise duration, sport dynamics, sweat rates, and individual tolerance.

Rehydration after exercise:

Rehydration after exercise should aim to correct fluid loss accumulated during exercise. Depending on one’s exercise duration and intensity, replace the electrolyte losses from sweat by consuming GU Brew and jump start protein syntheses with the help of GU Recovery Brew.

FAQ

What happened to Brew Electrolyte? Can I still purchase it?

Brew retains all of the attributes of the previous formula with a slight formulation tweak to improve performance.

Why GU Brew when original GU is already great?

They’re two different products, designed to work in tandem. Electrolyte Brew keeps you hydrated by replenishing the electrolytes your body sweats out during exercise. GU provides your body with energy to exercise and to maintain your effort during long workouts and events. The two products serve different, but equally important, functions. Most of our elite athletes carry both GU energy gels and Electrolyte Brew with them during training and racing.

GU Brew tastes lighter than some of the other sports drinks I’ve tried. Does this mean it’s less effective?

No! Many sports drinks on the market are full of sugary sweeteners and other unnecessary additives. Large amounts of sugar in your drink can lead to bloating in your belly. With GU Brew, we give you only the stuff you need to stay hydrated and none of the extra fluff.

How much should I drink each hour?

Approximately 24-32 ounces will do it. On hot days, you may even want to drink twice as much.

Will GU Brew recharge my body faster than GU energy gel?

Try it, every person will react differently. However, we don’t suggest you forgo eating GU or Roctane altogether. These gels pack valuable amino acid formulas that reduce fatigue and sharpen your mental state. Our sports drink was designed to work in tandem with the regular intake of GU Energy Gel and Roctane.

How long does GU Brew, once mixed into a beverage, remain stable? Does it need to be refrigerated?

Ideally GU Brew should be mixed just prior to exercise or competition. If you know you’re going to need more than one bottle of GU Brew, we suggest you carry it along in powder form and mix it with water when needed.

Should I dilute GU Brew?

No! GU Brew was specifically formulated to deliver the energy and electrolytes you need to perform your best, hour after hour.

Is it affected by heat if warmed up for use on cold days?

It is not affected by heat, but some people like the taste of hot GU Brew while others don’t.

Are there any foods or drinks to avoid while using GU Brew that would stunt or block the effectiveness of the ingredients?

All food, when taken simultaneously with GU gels or GU Brew, will diminish their powers. GU gels and GU Brew are designed to be used on an empty stomach (at least 3 hours after the last meal). This way you can keep fueling even when you’re pushing yourself to the max without worrying about slowing down to digest food.

Is GU Brew Kosher?

GU Energy Gel, Roctane, GU Brew, and GU Recovery Brew are all certified Kosher. Chomps are not.

Picked up a handful of free samples of the berry gu brew at a race expo. Have had it as replacement after longer runs. Taste is good! Did not have the heavy/sticky feeling that can be left in the mouth with other sport drinks.
  • Beats others hands down

After having used the typical sports drinks like Gatoraid during activities this has been an eye opener. When I started reading more on sports nutrition and realized how little electrolytes are actually in the commercial drinks and how much you really lose through sweat this was a no brainer. The extra carbs help replace some of the need for gels and chomps too.

The sports drink killer, and (possibly) my favorite GU product. A simple electrolyte drink that does everything right without trying too hard. I struggle with sweetness and viscosity, and this is just lightly sweet while having flavor and isn't syrupy. Goes in my water bottle on every long run.

I'd have to say that I had a new experience with this electrolyte mix, and I definitely believe it helped, particularly with avoiding muscle cramps which tend to happen to me in the heat when I'm only running on water. The brew had a unique taste, which I am still thinking about, but the performance effects were noticeable.

  • LOVE the TASTE!!

When I began training for my first half marathon, I was using the other stuff that you can buy at grocery stores, I hated how strong the taste was and was not satisfied with how I felt when using it. After many recommendations from other runners, I started using Gu Brew as an electrolyte drink. I started off with the Orange drink and immediately loved the light taste of it. I also noticed that I had more energy and felt better while using it the first time. Gu brew has fueled me through 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon (not to mention the Atlanta, GA heat). I LOVE this drink and all the flavors are tasty but not overpowering!!
  • Best stuff on the market!

Absolutely love the light taste this stuff has, doesn't bring with it the heavy feeling other electrolyte drinks bring. Much more endurance sport based than other sport drinks, which gives it a much better "feel" while exercising. Love the lemon-lime flavor, nice and light!
  • Tablets Great for travel
    Overview
    Posted by scott on 5/26/2013
As an avid runner I've used several different sports drinks, and have found Electrolyte brew to be one of my favorites for taste. however i've found that the thing I like best is the fact that they have found a compact and easy way to take these when travelling in the tablet version. the packets are nice but i've found I get more on the table than the bottle. I'm also afraid of them tearing open in my bag. with the tablets, no worries with that. also the tablets are very compact and take up allot less space in luggage.
