Welcome to GU Energy Labs
Created for daily training and competition, GU Energy Gel packs energy-dense calories in a portable packet to help sustain energy demands of any duration or activity. The 100-calorie packet contains carbohydrates (maltodextrin and fructose) that use non-competing pathways to help maximize carbohydrate absorption and utilization while diminishing stomach distress. Sodium, the primary electrolyte lost in sweat, aids in hydration by maintaining water balance. The branched-chain amino acids (leucine, valine, isoleucine) may reduce mental fatigue and decrease muscle damage.
ELECTROLYTES Maintain water balance and aid in optimum hydration. CARBOHYDRATES Deliver ready-to-use energy and delay bonking by sparing glycogen. AMINO ACIDS Reduce mental fatigue and decrease muscle damage. CAFFEINE Enhances performance by increasing focus and concentration and decreasing perceived effort during exercise.
Consume one packet 5 minutes before, and one packet every 45 minutes during activity.
Wash down with your favorite GU Hydration Drink or water for optimum absorption.
I complete Spartathlon 2015 on these. 68 to be precise.. 246km in 34:45.love them
I was always skeptical about energy foods and drink, and getting this little packet of gel didn't help my skepticism. What good could this little thing do? A lot. I first tried it during a 5K race and now use it for longer races including half marathons. This thing gives you a kick in the butt; my legs move so fast as if they have a mind of their own, just minutes after consuming a packet. I literally feel reenergized. I am doing my first full marathon in December and there's no way I would think of going the distance without my GU energy gel. The chocolate outrage is the best. I am still a skeptic about energy food and drink products but I'm definitely a GU energy gel believer.
I recently returned to cycling after a very long hiatus. For the first few rides, that were over an hour in two in length, I was crashing when I got back home. One of the guys at Performance Cycle recommended Gu for during and after my trips. I must say that energy replenishment has come a long way since we use to carry PB&J sandwiches or Fig Newtons in a he back of our jerseys!!! Taking a Gu Gel pack an hour into the ride, along with an energy/protein bar at the halfway point, along with another Gu Gel pack on the return trip, has made me ride further and longer than I previous could. I no longer feel tired, or crashing on trips, and when I'm done, I almost feel I could go further, longer and faster!!! If I was a skeptic before, I'm a believer now!!! Gu is part of my training routine to get me to my half century and century in cycling!!!
My second time trying Gu Energy Gel I went for the Jet Blackberry. I bought enough for my soccer team not knowing that it was going to metamorphasize a sunday league team into a Barca/Madrid team. We began the game with smooth pass to pass movement. The opponents kept up. It was for long when we began the Gu Energy Gel domination. We were able to surpass the opponent in stamina and energy though out the whole game. The end result was 20 - 3 in favor of us, the Gu Energy Gel consumers! I rate this a super mario 5 star!
Can't believe what a difference this makes. I like long runs and hills. Best thing I ever had.
Being a Type 1 diabetic and exercising, sometimes don't mix well as low blood sugars can occur. Therefore, to keep my equilibrium while powerlifting or running or bicycling, I always keep a few of these with me. They are easy to store, don't need refrigeration, quick acting and make me feel good within 10-15 minutes, when I feel the "lows." Too, they don't have bad carbs so they don't make my sugars get out of whack. My taste buds really are taking a fancy to the root beer flavor!
Yes the taste is good, but that's not the point. What I need is a product that will supply me with energy during runs and races. During my long runs I take a GU about every 6-7 miles. After taking it, I feel like I get a 2nd wind about 5 minutes later. It really gives me the energy and focus to finish my runs. I don't prefer eating gels, but they carry so easily that I wouldn't go with anything else.
After years of having stomach issues from gels i finally decided to try out GU gels. Id avoided it all these years, as you have to order online and takes some time to get to me. But let me tell you, it was so worth it! Ive only tried Salted Caramel and Vanilla so far, but both were, gasp!, good and went down easy even after 5,6,7 hours and even better, no stomach issues. Definitely would recommend these!
I've used gels for my last three bike rides on three different routes. All three were record times by a significant amount. In addition, I don't feel completely wiped out at the end of each session. You buy them for the energy and for me they work. Nuff said?
I´ve been through many types of gels and this is by far the best tasting gel out there. I am also pleased with the energy given so this is definitely a 5 star product.
So delicious! I left one in my bag today while at the beach and it got warm. It was like brownie batter! Omnomnom. Gave me a little pick me up after laying/playing in the sun for a few hours. Definitely buying a box of these!
Stuck this one in the freezer for about 10 mins and it got cold and thick, it was delicious! Tastes just like root beer and with no caffeine it is great for my evening runs when I need just a little pick me up with no jitters and no trouble sleeping as I am sensitive to caffeine. A swig of water and you're good to go!
Tried the Cherry Lime Roctane for the first time for a 10k I was running. After a hard day of work, 1 packet 15-20 mins before gave me enough to power through. It definitely takes getting used to the texture the first time around but a few sips of water and you're ready to go! Good flavor, good energy!
As a 43 year old male who has been at a desk job for the past 20 years and who also tries to stay active playing softball, volleyball, and wakeboarding, I've noticed my energy levels aren't what they used to be. After taking these gels, I felt a noticeable difference in my mental and physical energy during the times I play. It has given me a boost when I need it. Great product.
At first I was hesitant to try gu based on others' experiences. I tried a sample of the Chocolate Outrage today and loved it! Great taste and fun to eat. Great energy which is really helpful on those day when I started out my workout pretty tired. After my first experience I was hooked!
i like it
some what sweet, I find it hard to digest down if I am really stressed and climbing hills for example. I have not tried other flavors to see if they might have a different effect. I have been using a different product. i picked up this sample on a Fresno Ca. ride. Thank-you for the donation.
Love Chocolate Outrage! It tastes so good...the chocolate really helped get me thru the last 4 miles of my run this morning. I will definitely be stocking up on this flavor!
The gel works greats. True to the product promise. The chocolate flavor is fantastic. Best flavor of the GU gel product line.
This really makes you think of the holidays.
I don't like the gels much at first but I tried the mint chocolate. It is so great. Its like eating a york peppermint patty. Its not thick. Its sooooooo yummy. If you don't like gels then try this one! Its for everyone!!!!
Keep this flavor, and all the flavors, coming. Great stuff that goes down easy and has almost an immediate effect in my endurance.
I got a hold of a sample package of the Peanut Butter GU before it was released and it is simply amazing. I am usually a fan of the chocolate, but will now probably use about 75% peanut butter. It is the best tasting energy gel product I have tired, and I have tried dozens.
Peppermint Stick has been fantastic at giving my body, mind, and spirit, the GOOD MORNING TO YOU, as I drive the early morning dark road to the pool. It's just what I need to both get my attention and get my workout off to a great start! Did I mention it tastes frickin' awesome. In fact, it might even say 'awesomeness' in the ingredients. I'll have to check that out. NO! You check it out. It's good stuff and you won't regret it.
Do you remember those orange and black wrapped toffees with peanut butter centers that we got at Halloween as kids? Peanut Butter GU tastes just like those!
I was planning my long run the other day and was sad to remember that we are out of Peanut Butter GU. It is that good!
I have always had a love for Peanut Butter and GU flavored PB tastes like the real deal! It's amazing! I've used in in a yogurt smoothie to give it a peanut butter taste, I've used it on my toast, and I now use it on all my long runs, rides, and swims. Thanks for making something so great!
Tastes pretty dang good and does a great job.
I was given a free sample pack of this flavor before my first race ever (10k trail in September); I've been using these gels since. Gu's helped me place in a half-marathon trail race in November, and I'm definitely going to use these for a 50k in February and a 100 miler this coming November.
This gu not only tastes great but is easier on my stomach than the other gu's. I hope it will come off the limited list and onto the all year round list.
I also got to try PB GU before it was released and it is OUTSTANDING. I love it. It's a nice change from all the sweet flavors - definitely more salty / savory which I prefer. I don't want to use any other gels now!
gu witheach workout
Gu gives me energy to continue working out when I start to tire
I use Gu every time I workout.
My new favorite flavor. Used to be loyal to vanilla or chocolate GU, but am definitely adding this to the rotation.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but after one gel before working out, I felt the boost i needed to ramp up my workout. i ordered a 24 pack. good stuff
This is the best gel out their. If you like peanut butter you will like this. Its like taking a spoonful of peanut butter right out of the jar without the sticky tackiness mouth feel. I wish all gels tasted exactly like the label says.
You can check out my full review here on Epinions:
Without a doubt the tastiest of the GU products. Helps keep you energized for long training runs, rides and during endurance races.
I am a fan of the Vanilla flavor. Smooth and not hard on the stomach. Gives me energy and keep me from bonking. What more can I ask.
Got some PB GU in a some pre-race swag. It's now my only flavor. I used to go between the vanilla bean or triberry, but not anymore. PB all the way for me. It also has more potassium and sodium then other flavors, but it's a 20g carb flavor, which is normal, but some do have 25g of carbs. It also has 1g protein.
...and of course, all GU's are awesome, regardless of flavor. Really helps fuel you in a lightweight package that doesn't cramp your stomach. Also, in regards to messiness, they aren't any different that any other gel on the market, but once you start using them, you figure out how to make them clean.
This is definitely a great flavor, and it goes down well with a bit of water. Gu has saved me on many a ride from bonking!
Jet blackberry is by far one of the best flavors of GU product there is. And with the extra caffeine boost, this product generates a nice performance enhancing kick, making Jet Blackberry one of my favorites.
Amazing GEL, caffeine with no heartburn and great energy. Best out there.
I've tried all gels available working for a running store and nutritionally GU is the best. It may not be the thinnest but nutritionally, no other gel can pack what GU can in a little pack.
I've had a gluten allergy for 5 years now and when I started doing half and full marathons about 3 years ago, I was looking for a product that had great flavors, met my needs during a race, and was gluten free to avoid any issues. These definitely met my goals and then some. The best thing is that I don't have to pay attention to specific flavors because they are all gluten free!
I've been all over the GU line, trying flavors. I am a huge fan of most of their products. I thought I was happy enough with the brand, until I tried the Peanut Butter. I was at a stop sign during a 30 mile training ride. It changed my life. This is by far, the best flavor of GU yet. It is creamy, and full of flavor. There's a new flavor leader in the clubhouse, boys and girls. I can't wait to try the PB&Jet combo pack!
The Mint Chocolate gel is by far my favorite!! I feel like I'm eatting dessert while I'm training...without ending up in a chocolate coma!
I wasn't sure if these energy gels were all they were cracked up to be until I tried them. Easy on the stomach, tasty and a good source to sustain energy during longer workouts. Helped me break into the double digit distances in my running. Mixed with a little water in a nutrition flask or straight out of the pack, they are great!
I have been using GU Energy Gel for quite sometime as fuel during intensive circuit weight and cardio-training as well as during tennis matches. I find that they taste great and go down smoothly. I appreciate the research that has gone into the ingredient combination of the product.
I've been running for a few years now and just ran my first full marathon with the help of Gu! Started using it around my first half marathon a year ago and won't look back. Have tried a lot of other gels but this is the go to for me. Jet Blackberry's my favorite but all are good. Not a huge fan of the Peppermint Stick though. Would recommend!
I have been a Tri-Berry fan for the past two decades. Strawberry Banana is a tasty second and Just Plain is just as described. Easy to eat and store. Adding a litter leash would be helpful for quick mid race post use stashing.
I have used GU energy gel for all of my half-marathons. It gives me that extra energy I need to power through those last few miles. The strawberry banana and the jet blackberry are very tasty!
I have been using Gu gels since I started running in March 2013. I tried a couple of other brand but found Gu to be the best tasting and made me feel better while training. I have ran 2 half marathon and just completed my first marathon in April. My favorite flavor is chocolate outrage. I can never get tired of that flavor. I like that it has a kick of caffeine as well. I highly recommend Gu gels for training.
Recently had an opportunity to try the Espresso flavor, and along with my continued use of Jet Blackberry, I have added another favorite in my arsenal of great gels. Thanks!
These were the first gels that I tried, and I haven't even bothered to buy other brands because these work so well. They're almost exactly the same consistency and even taste of pudding. The chocolate outrage and vanilla bean are easily mistakable for pudding in a blind taste test. Not a big fan of the caffeine in some of the flavors, but it is what it is. I like Vanilla Bean and Orange the best, but all are pretty good. Make sure you use water to wash it down though- made that mistake on my first 2+ hour run with 4 of these gels. Learned my lesson though. For some reason I expected these to be slightly larger in size and slightly drier/pastier, but that was just a preconceived notion I had. Over all a great product, I order/consume a box of 24 in a bout a week.
This was the second energy gell I have tried and was much better than the first brand. Consistency was much better, less stick to the top of your mouth and make you want to drink a gallon of water. The Flavor was about as I expected from an item like this, not great but not bad. Where it was fantastic was in the performance of the gel, I felt great for my whole ride after following the recommended use. All in all I would definitely recommend this to others.
Ok, the flavor on this one was not the best (that could just be my taste). As with other GU gells that I have tried it performed as advertised. I probably will not get this flavor again but would always advise to go with the GU brand!
I use these before any hard or semi long run, especially tempos or track workouts. For anything over an hour, I have found these to provide a nice boost both before and during the workout. You won't like every flavor, but there are so many once you find one you like, you won't want to train without them.
holy cow the new Salted Caramel Gu is amazing!! I'm usually a Espresso Love guy, I saw the caramel one at my running store and bought a few. I had one yesterday during a 10mile run and immediately thought that it would be great over icecream too. It is by far the best tasting gel I have ever had. I hope it's not just a limited run or anything like that, I will be buying a box shortly.
I LOVE this product for my longer runs. The menthol in peppermint helps to clear the respiratory tract and makes breathing feel cool and easy. Great relief on a hot and humid run, not to mention the glycogen boost for added energy. This is my first pick for race fuel.
Been using GU for a number of years, my favorite is the Strawberry Banana flavor. It keeps me from getting depleated at the end of a workout, or race. Before using GU, I would get bad headaches after a race, as long as I take one before and every hour or so throughout, I can go for HOURS without a headache!
I had tried a few flavors and loved them for the most part. that was until i saw the PB and Jet. It really is a great flavor combination. It has the same great performance as the other GU gels that I have come to expect.
I'm a Plain gal...that's it. Maybe, maybe I will throw in a Mint Chocolate or an Island Nectars Rocktane for every 2-3 Plain Gu's I have. But this...this Salted Caramel...I've NEVER eaten a Gu faster in my life. I finished it and immediately wanted another. I plan on freezing a few so that when I am ready for one it will be very caramely! This is a dangerous flavor as now I'm thinking it would make a great snack anytime of the day! YIKES!
Tried the salted caramel on my 20 mile run today. I felt like I was eating salt water taffy at the beach. It was incredible and the salty sweet taste lingered for a mile or so after I had finished. I really hope this is a permanent flavor.
I am new to this whole endurance nutrition thing. This is by far the best flavor I have tried in the GU Energy Gels. It is super easy to get down and the sweet and salt is everything you want and more when you are riding that 100 miles.
I use Jet Blackberry and Island Nectars almost exclusively for short and long distance training and racing. A gel 45 minutes before a race, on the starting line and every 30-45 minutes thereafter prevents cramping, fights off bonking and continually tastes great. I've continued the every 45 minute schedule in up to 30 hour adventure races without any issues. Needless to say, I eat a lot of GU gels... I've been using GU since the 1990s and the flavors keep getting better.
The peanut butter flavor is by far my favorite so far. It tastes just like real peanut butter but is so much easier to eat while riding. Definitely ordering more when I run out.
I've tried many brands, but GU peanut butter is my fave by far. It tastes just like actual peanut butter, but with a bit more sweetness and an icing like consistency. A great energy boost especially when your bonking.
Great flavor! It's a great alternative to the margarita shot blocks from clif (I tolerated the flavor for the extra electrolytes). I hope this isn't a limited edition or seasonal flavor. It's really grown on me.
Had 2 last weekend during a 12 mile run, and I am now trying to think of ways to eat this stuff all-day!! Ice cream, anyone??? Ah-mazing!!!!
I have been competing in road races for about 4 years, but just started regularly using GU this year. Before, I was cutting energy bars and using those for in-race nutrition. I was nervous about GU being tough on my belly. Luckily, it has not been! I find GU easy to eat when running. Personally, I walk and eat the GU as I'm simply not coordinated enough to run, sip water, and eat the GU.
Flavors I have tried and thoughts:
Jet Blackberry- not my favorite, very strong blackberry flavor
Chocolate Outrage- very good, tasted a hint of mocha
Mandarin Orange- also very good
Lemon Sublime- too tangy for my likes
Vanilla- very good- would suggest this to someone who is trying for the first time and is nervous about flavor selection
Strawberry Banana- was surprised at how "natural" this tasted, expected more of an aftertaste
This product is amazing. It helped me win my first ever sprint triathlon and has given me the motivation to compete in many more. I had the tri-berry energy gel on my bike ride and it set me up perfectly for the humid run!
1st place in 20-24 agegroup(15 overall)
Gu is great. I used gaterade engery chews for ever and it didn't work. So I bought some gu and its worked great
I've been hooked on GU the past year and the longer my training takes me taking a GU every 30-45 minutes on long rides has left with fully energized for the whole ride. No bonking and no nasty after taste. It's become part of my training and racing routine daily.
This is the only thing that gets me through my long runs...especially after I've already put in a long day at the office. Peanut butter flavored GU is delicious, refreshing, and energizing!
I mostly use Roctane to fuel my long runs, but recently ordered a box of Salted Caramel to add even more variety to my stock of GU. Oh..my..gosh. The flavor is absolutely amazing! So much so, that I usually save it to Hour 4 during my long runs as a treat. The great folks at GU always do a great job, but they've really outdone themselves with this one!
Compared to other energy gels, I've always preferred GU because of the slightly thicker consistency and the smaller form factor of the pouch. Flavor-wise, I'm a fan of the orange and the blackberry, but pretty much all are decent.
Running in the summer in south Georgia consists of 90 degree temperatures and 90% humidity. Many other products leave an after taste or have a texture that leaves your mouth gummy. The Lemon Sublime Gu avoids all of those pitfalls and has a refreshing and light citrus flavor. All the Gu gels are great for nutrition during my runs, I have tried chews, bars, jelly beans, and I always come back to Gu because it just can't be beat in my opinion.
I've tried a lot of other energy gels, chews, ect out there... and GU definitely outshines them all. I prefer the ones with extra caffeine, but that's just b/c I'm addicted to it. If it's your first time trying it, I'd suggest starting with just one on your long run, finding what flavors you like, then going from there!
I used GU the entire way through IMLP. Kept me going and tastes great. Could really feel the kick it gave when things started to get ugly on the run!! GU is the best energy gel out there!!
Peanut butter gu is the best flavor out there!! tastes like melted Peanut butter fudge!! Literally cannot wait to use it! Is like eating dessert on the bike!
I have no complaints about the taste or effectiveness of the gel, but it's thicker than most others in my experience. It's thick enough that chewing helps. I've always preferred the smoother, less viscous brands but that's just me. The taste is as good as it gets, and the energy boost is noticeable. Good stuff.
I was just introduced to the Salted Carmel cupcake a few months ago, and couldnt believe how amazing it was! When I saw this flavor I knew it was going to be good. It did not disappoint!!!!
Now I have to admit, the salted caramel is pretty darn good, but Espresso Love is my old standby. When everything else starts tasting bad (after 8-10 on a long training day) these still go down smooth and taste great. The savory flavors are easier to enjoy late in the workout!
By far, Lime Sublime and Mandarine Orange outshine them all. Both have a light flavor that, while I'm racing and/or training, encourage me to want to hydrate. I alternate between the two during my long rides and supplement with Roctane energy drink. They're perfect for long, hot training days.
I'm a Type 1 diabetic and I find it reduce the number of low blood sugar reactions I used to have, when I take it before exercising. I't Also tastes Awesome.
Best flavor. And its great before you go on a long run. Doesn't get old after having a couple on a run
Not all the flavors are the best, but the ones I love are awesome. Trained for and ran a Marathon along with 4 half marathons, used GU every time and felt great. Those long runs it was well worth it.
I've been using GU as my primary energy source for training and racing since 2010 (prior to that I had stopped running for 15 years). While I like most, if not all, the flavors, "Espresso Love" is my "go to" flavor. I know whether it's a long training run or I'm racing an ultramarathon, I can count on Espresso Love to go down well and just as importantly STAY DOWN!
Late in a race, the caffeine gives me that last little "umph" to find an extra gear and push through the finish line!
I do all different distance races and I don't rely on anything else but Gu gel products. They get me moving, keep me going, and help me finish strong. Can't go wrong with any of the flavors!
I have been competing in triathlon about three years now. I tried Gu first, and it's still my favorite. I live the Espresso Love early, then I switch to PeanutButted with the Vanilla in there once in a while. Other brands tend to upset my stomach. Gu never does. Great product!
I had never used GU before receiving it at a refreshment/water station during a distance race at mile 10. Within a quarter of a mile I could literally feel my energy pick up. The taste was good but it was a little thick (though that was not a problem because I had it with water). Can't wait to receive my first shipment to help me on my training days.
I alternated between these and Gu Roctanes during my ironman training process. These were great for shorter workouts where I wanted to really enjoy my energy gel, whereas the Gu Roctanes were better for 5-8 hour rides
Chocolate Outrage is where its at! Doesn't get any more delicious than that stuff mid-ride!
Very easy to stash several of these in a waist pack for my run. I alternate between fruity flavors and chocolate/vanilla or PB; to keep it interesting for 2+ hour workouts.
I don't go anywhere without my GU. These have kept me going through multiple ironmans, marathons, mountain summits, skiing days, etc. Haven't had a bad flavor yet, but the Jet Blackberry rocks... especially on pancakes!
Gu definitely has the best taste of all the gels on the market. Peanut Butter is my go to flavor but everything out of the mixed box is win and adds the energy when i am starting to feel tired.
I've been using GU for many years because it tastes great, is easy on my stomach, and just plain works! It's the easiest, most convenient way to insure that I'm getting the energy I need for road or mountain biking.
I've loved GU for years and this winter GU has renewed my adoration by introducing the world to "Salty." I look forward to my weekend runs just so I can enjoy this latest flavor. GU Energy Labs, thank you for giving me yet another reason to run.
I just tried the new salted Carmel. It is amazing!!! I think I've found a new favorite
I just tried the salted caramel power gel! OH MY WORLD! Not only delicious extremely efficient during my run! Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Cant wait to try new flavors!
I'm an ultramarathoner and use gels, dried fruit, and "blocks" to fuel my runs. After a long day on the trails, I'm often getting tired of the same sweet, fruity flavors. Salted Caramel Gu is an excellent break from these flavors and really mixes it up. I save it until late in the race so I have something new and delicious to look forward to.
The new Salted Caramel is a home run! The best thing about GU gels is they taste they way they should. My other favorite, Peanut Butter, has the best peanut-buttery flavor, without the tongue-sticking-to-the-roof -of-your-mouth consistency.
These energy gels are a great way to give you fast and strong energy and really help with my performance during races. I always have one of them 15 minutes before the start of cyclocross races and this gives me what I need to stay out in front.
This is my new favorite GU. I'm an avid fan of the Espresso Love and Vanilla Bean, but this just takes the cake. (Thank goodness Gu doesn't have a cake batter flavor...!) Salted Caramel is the perfect 5:30am gel to get me out the door to run, and to wake up again the next morning for more.
I love me some Gu. My personal favorites are salted carmel, chocolate outrage, and peach tea chomps.
Salted carmel is the best for a long day of riding because it tastes good and on a long ride, that is really all that matters
Chocolate Outrage is nice because when it heats up it tastes like brownie batter
Peach tea is awesome because I like peaches and that's exactly what it tastes like
Often, late in races, I find it difficult to tolerate swallowing much of anything, but love the new salted caramel GU! I also really appreciate the increased electrolytes as I find it really does make a difference!
For all you salted caramel fans out there this is the best flavor. I can eat this all day long!
Who doesn't like a little desert while training/racing? I have been a fan of Gu Gel for years and after going through all the flavors Mint Chocolate is the BEST. The Gu Gels give me the fuel I need to get through my long training days and races. I have recently been experimenting with the Gu Roctane and so far so good!
My fave Flavors are Vanilla, Salty Caramel, Espresso and Peanut Butter. I choose my flavor based on what I need, ie caffeine or not, at that moment. I do triathlons of all distances and GU keeps me going! Using a flask pre-filled makes life easier on the bike so I don't have to open each one while riding.
My personal favorite of all the gu flavors!! It actually tastes like real espresso, and isn't too overly sweet. My go-to for long distance runs!
Best GU flavor yet! So weird sounding but way better than any other flavor. Its amazing i'm going to buy an entire box!!
This is an awesome flavor and is ordered the most on my triathlon team at my college
I wasn't always able to use the gel's, but I have come to really like a couple of the flavors. Both for taste and what they do for me on my runs. I had just two flavors that I would use and now with the salted caramel I have another. What a great flavor! I have to admit, I will be wearing my Salty socks at my next ultra! Loved the socks!
I usually spend about a half an hour on the treadmill a day, but after starting to use GU Gel, I just can't get enough! It makes me want to work out longer, and harder and I know I can trust it to keep me going! Its a great addition to any activity, and even beginners will benefit from GU Energy Gel
I love the taste and the energy that I get from using the Vanilla Bean flavor GU Energy Gel! I can always count on these energy gels to give you fast and strong energy and really help with my performance during races. Love this product. Thanks.
Best tasting deliciousness that boosts my energy levels to perform longer, harder, and stronger. I look forward to picking and choosing my Gu Flavors for my long runs. Current favorite flavor is strawberry banana! Can't wait for marathon season!
The GU Energy Gels are easily the best in the industry. I've tried other brands, and they just don't compare. GU is easiest on my stomach and easiest to digest, not to mention they taste the best. My favorite is the salted caramel (I could eat that for dessert)!
Other brands have hurt my stomach in marathons and caused me to stop to use the restroom. But GU digested very well and gave me the boost I needed to finish strong with no stops or stomach distress.
I finally got around to trying Peanut Butter GU even though it's been around for quite awhile now. This stuff is delicious! It tastes so much like real peanut butter I could have spread it on some bread, added some jelly, and called it lunch! If you like peanut butter, definitely check this stuff out.
I look forward to the 45 minute mark in my ride...a vanilla bean treat is on the menu! I also like Gu prior to a climb...and even at the top of a climb. Yummy!...time to go ride!!
The best! I had no idea this was available! I ran the Hollywood Half Marathon and my job for the event was to help runners finish. I crossed the finish line until all runners finished. How awesome is that!. With this said, I finished with 17 miles running all over the place. Thanks to this salty caramel GU I kept going. I always carry salt tablets, but not anymore!! Awesome and delicious!
When I was a kid, my favorite part of making brownies was cleaning bowl out with my finger. I guess things haven't changed much because it still is. When i picked up the "Chocolate Outrage" I was a little skeptical because I've always leaned towards the fruity or citrus flavors when I'm out on a long bike ride. It truly was love at first taste. In fact it was like a trip down memory lane the first time I tried the chocolate. To say I've grown fond of the chocolate flavor is an understatement. I usually keep one on my when I'm doing intervals as a reward for after. It's better than a chocolate bar, because it never melts. If you like chocolate and you haven't tried this flavor, you're missing out on a real treat.
The Jet Blackberry is what I like to call the workhorse of the gels. It's the flavor that's so easy to stomach and so tasty, that you can go right through them. Someone else claims to give you wings, but I've heard that hospitals are using it to resuscitate people who've gone into cardiac shock. My source isn't very reliable, but the boost you get from these packets of goodness is reliable. It's what I turn to when I need a boost. You can go to the edge of death, take a Jet Blackberry, and you'll be back to your game in no time flat.
These are great because they taste awesome and your can eat them without having to stop your activity whether it's biking, running or something else. Just squeeze and swallow and boom another 45+ minutes of epic energy for your shred mission.
I am so glad that you guys came out with this flavor!!! Out of all the flavors I think this is the best one!! Thanks guys!!
GU energy gels are great for trail running! I took a Strawberry Banana GU on a trail run to a local mountain peak. They are very lightweight, small and quick to eat/ no clean up. GU is perfect for eating on the go!
lemon sublime is delicious! Kept me going for the last several miles of my first marathonl. love this flavor!
My wife got me some salted caramel for my christmas stocking, and I've been hooked (bought a bunch of it to get me through Ironman Boulder. Great stuff. Now, if only I can find some more Peppermint Stick to repay the favor to her.
I used these on a 60+ mile bike ride and they were easy to store in my jersey and even easier to drink while I was on the bike! Great for anyone who is into fitness.
I had a lemon lime flavored one and it was great. Definitely felt like it gave a boost during my ride.
I never thought I would, but I LOVE the salted caramel. I also LOVED the peppermint stick and wish they would bring it back. Mint chocolate is a close 3rd. I've taped salted caramel and chocolate together to get a hit of both on a long run- tasty combo.
By far my favorite flavor! Just wish more places sold the salted caramel. It literally tastes like a caramel topping for ice-cream. The saltiness and sweet combined are awesome!
These are now my favorite gels. I just tried the mandarin orange one the other day at a race and it is great! I have used cliff gels before, but these are 10 times better. The cliff ones were too thick.
After finishing the first leg of a team Duathlon, I needed something to refuel before my next leg. I only had roughly 50 minutes to replenish and digest so I had part of a GU. I ran the second leg faster than the first and had no gut ache. I finished off the GU to refuel after the race. Worked out perfectly.
I absolutely love our Gu gels. My favorite thing to do is to throw a few in the fridge to get a little bit of a chewier texture for our workouts - not only are they just as delicious, they stay cool against my back for the first portion of my run. Our favorite flavors so far are the Mandarin Orange and the Lemon Sublime... don't know what we'd do without our Gu!
I first tried GU a few years back when I began rowing and I can honestly say I think it was one of the best nutritional decisions I could have made. Not only are there so many great tasting flavors to choose from, but it provides me with the right amount of energy, whether I am doing a workout or racing. Sits well in my stomach and the caffeine is a great addition. While I will be a customer either way, new flavors are always welcome!
I have been using GU for a couple of years now. Peanut butter used to be my favorite flavor, but now Salted Caramel take the cake. Unlike other gels, these actually taste GREAT!!! Sometimes I almost feel guilty eating it because it tastes SOOO good. These gels have helped me too many times to count, I now train with them along with the Roctane Energy Drink. My runs are getting longer and I am getting faster. I would recommend these for any athlete that needs that extra push during endurance workouts.
I am a triathlete and half marathoner, and I love GU Gels because they are the best tasting gels on the market and they are easy to consume while running AND while biking.
By USAT rules, throwing trash on the ground is a potential penalty, and the small top section and easy to fold packaging allow easy storage whether full or empty. Plus, with all the flavor options, it's easy to find one you'll love!
By far the best gels out there. Easy to digest and great flavors. Love the salted caramel!
Sometimes I run just so I can have GU - they are that good. Favorites are Peanut Butter, Mint Chocolate, Lemon Lime, and Vanilla Bean, but they're all pretty tasty.
A couple years ago I ate Gu just because it was what I needed to do to fuel for a race. Now I am super excited about eating Gu while racing and training though. There new flavors such as peanut butter and salted caramel are SUPER DELICIOUS!!! They keep innovating with flavors and can't wait to see what they come out with next :)
The first and last gel that you will need.
GU Energy Gel's are my go to fuel for training and racing. Sometimes, even to replace breakfast when an early morning workout is looming. I was having lots of stomach issues 5-6 years ago with other products, but have since switched to nothing but GU and Roctane during runs and racing with absolutely zero stomach issues.
This is probably my new favorite flavor. Nice little switch from the completely sweet GU's, plus there's a yeti on the packet:)
The salted caramel GU is the best I've had! GU gels fight off the empty feeling deep into a workout when your body wants to stop moving!
Been using Gu for a while now to train for and run half marathons. Even before I knew what was causing my stomach issues (turns out I have Celiac Disease), I knew Gu was a safe fuel source for me. Prior to Celiac, my favorite was to mix chocolate and peanut butter, but stopped doing that since PB wasn't labeled gluten free. I ordered a 24 pack of the new Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor the day it came out and nearly squealed when I saw the gluten free labeling. Thank you! I know it's supposed to be a limited released, but PLEASE make it a permanent flavor.
"The snozberries taste like snozberries!" -Willy Wonka
Well, the Salted Caramel tastes like Salted Caramel and it couldn't be any better! Just reordered a 24pk.
I am a huge fan of the vanilla bean and the salted caramel Gu. These gels are the right consistency. Other companies have much thicker and some much thinner, but Gu really gets the consistency right to consume while running.
The salted caramel gel is probably the most delicious gel I've ever had. It's always a pleasure pulling one of these gels out of my jersey pocket on a ride. I highly recommend this flavor!
This weekend I had the opportunity to go ultralight backpacking. I needed lightweight nutrition as to not add weight to my pack and to replenish what I had lost while working. I took A GU energy gel with me, and it was perfect at a rest break to eat and restore my energy levels!
I took a Strawberry Banana GU with me during a 20k trail race. It was great to bring along in my shorts pocket because it was hardly noticeable and if I bonked, I had something available to help me out.
I actually look forward to my GU during runs now. Salted Caramel is SO good! Keeps me fueled and tastes great. Awesome!
Not only do these gels taste great (they do!) but they provide me with the energy I need to finish my races. I use the salted caramel exclusively. The taste reminds me of the delicious desert I get to eat at the end of my race. Love them!!!
On long rides, training or racing, PB is my favorite flavor. GU gels give me the energy boost I need. But, PB tastes the best at the end of a ride, and is slightly filling. I also enjoy the quick energy boost from GU gels!
I am caffeine free, and strawberry banana is a great gel with no caffeine. The flavor is good; not too acidic, nor is the banana flavor too strong. Being caffeine free, GU gels give me all the energy I need for my racing and training needs.
Great combo flavor, I no longer have to fumble around in my jersey pocket for the individual flavors of chocolate outrage and peanut butter.
Recently tried PB Choc, Salted Caramel, Salted Watermelon, and Root Beer. Still not sure what took so long to combine PB and Chocolate but so glad it finally happened. Perfect blend of both flavors and its surprisingly smooth, thought would be a little thick (like PB and chocolate separately are) but it is blended really well and tastes great. Salted caramel was my #1 choice all of last year and its still in the top 3 but salted watermelon has now taken over the top spot. Mainly because I like the fruitier taste, especially on longer workouts in the heat. Salted caramel was great for the first couple of hours in 85= temps but in the fifth hour it got a little hard to put down. Salted watermelon has a great taste and is perfect for the long rides and runs as it has a very refreshing taste. Tried Root Beer today for the first time and was hesitant how it would be. Was very impressed with the taste and was happy that it was not too strong of a root beer taste but just enough to satisfy the craving. On long runs I start craving pop and this will be great for that.
Root Bear flavor is really really good buy it you will not regret
This is amazing how it tastes so good but still helps my performance without causing any upset stomach issues. I love how Gu helps my rides and tri's! Thanks GU
These gels work great because they give you about 100 calories per ounce! That means they're lightweight and give a big energy boost
I love these gel's because they are perfect for any activity! Skiing, Marathon, Mountain biking, Hiking, Skating, Snowshoeing, Basketball.. anything where you need a boost of energy!
tons of flavors to pick out of! 15 awesome flavors to keep you running so you don't get tired of tasting the same thing. These are really yummy when working out and when you need to recover your energy.
GU is a very well known, quality product and company. They sponsor some insanely good athletes that trust their products. I love using GU gels whenever I can on outdoor adventures, especially on long trail runs. It tastes amazing when you're out there on the trail.
I have attempted in the past to make my own energy gels. It never really worked out and it tasted awful. These GU packets are so much more tasty and reliable!
GU energy gel is good to break up the normal nutrition consisting of hydration drinks and bars. It adds some flavor variety with its many flavors to choose from, texture variety, and a sweet and salty mixture to make a solid gel!
I had the strawberry banana flavor last week during a road race. It tasted great and definitely did its job. Well done!
Salted Caramel was my favorite until Salted Watermelon was released. Great flavor, great taste and great results. I look forward to taking my gu during runs. It's just as much a treat as it is fuel. Can't wait to try Root Beer.
I love lots of the Gu flavors, but Salted Caramel is the best. I've never had any GI upset with Gu and enjoying the taste makes me actually look forward to taking my gels during long runs.
SO easy to carry, SO easy to open, SO easy to digest and SO awesome tasting. love the root beer, salted carmel, salted watermelon, chocolate outrage... Thank You GU People
The flavor is there, but otherwise it's a bit sticky and thick. I reserve these gels as pre-ride gels.
Vanilla Bean, it may sound like the most boring flavor, but I keep coming back to it. It's overtaking salted caramel for my favorite gel.
I've tried a lot of gels and was so excited when the Root Beer flavor was released. It's awesome! It makes me want to go that extra mile :)
My favs are def salted watermelon, salted caramel and tri berry. They go down smooth and don't bother my stomach. The taste is great and fueling is better!
These gels are better than all the other brands I've tried. Good flavors, nice consistency, go down and stay down. I go for the Roctane gels when racing, but since these are a bit cheaper I go with these for long training runs. For a little variety I'll eat a mix of these and some Chomps during long training rides.
I realy liked this product , very nice taste , If you liked the salted Caramel you will love this
I liked , but I didn't love , it's nice to take , but the taste is almost a buble gum. But it's ok to use
This is for me the best one , from the new flavors , realy recomend
It taste like caramel apple with coffee flavor.
I have tried a wide variety of gel products and there is none that surpass the Gu Energy Gels. The Salted Caramel flavor is one of the best things I have ever tasted, and that's not just limited to gels. Some include caffeine, which is a huge plus when time is important. The gels kick in quickly and leave you with sustainable energy and without crash.
I love this stuff. It took me several runs to figure out my best time. I like to start with a non caffeine packet 15 minutes before the race. I'm already pumped so I don't need caffeine. If running a 5K I don't use any during the race. 10K (50 minute is my time..45 years old) I hit a pack at 25 minutes with Caffeine to give me that final boost to bring it home. Half Marathon...I steady slurp about every 30 minutes. Usually no caffeine until the end to BRANG it on home. That's what works for me.
I get pumped on long rides when I get to pull out my salted caramel gel. I want to suckle on like 5 of them they taste so good!
I have tried numerous GU Gels and I have like the majority of them, and I dont dislike the salted watermelon, but I dont like it either. It tastes kind of like a less sweet watermelon jolly rancher with a little bit of salt, but it is not noticeably salty. So, I recommend that you try it and see for yourself.
Caramel Macchiato is delicious! Gels are a necessary evil while out for a long run/ride/endurance event. But the have to taste good! If they don't, they will not be consumed and they do not work while sitting in your jersey pocket. GU has the best tasting gels! Of course, they also perform as advertised.
It tastes good enough to use as ice cream topping. Mostly sweet, with just a hint of saltiness.
I was studying for the MCATs and my friend suggested that I start using GUs between my breaks. And so he decided to get me a combination box of GUs and I literally fell in love. Although I've been using GUs for a few months now, I hadn't realized how useful they were as an energy source for that brain of ours! The vanilla bean is beyond this world! And the chocolate...enough said! So GUs are just for athletes. They're for brainiacs or wanna be brainiacs.
Ever since I have started running I've been using GU and I am not surprised why I always have a strong finish...I use it only on RACES..I'll soon use for my training...
There are only 100 calories per packet, yet I burn through 100 calories in 10 minutes. Shouldn’t I eat more than one every 30-45 minutes?
We limited GU Energy Gel to 100 calories because, in general, the body can digest roughly 350 calories per hour during exercise. If you tried to eat more, the body would divert blood from your muscles— say “buh-bye” to a personal record—to handle the excess food. If your metabolism is slow, then one GU every 45 minutes works fine. If you have an athlete’s metabolism, try ingesting one GU Energy Gel every 30 minutes and see if it agrees with you.
How do you eat GU Energy Gel?
Rip open the top and squeeze the entire packet into your mouth—don’t save half of it for later. GU Energy Gel's recipe of carbohydrates and amino acids was created to be taken in one shot to provide you with maximum benefits.
How should you use GU energy Gel to help you recover from hard training or racing?
When you stop, go ahead and eat a pack of GU Energy Gel, even if it’s been less than 30 minutes from your last shot of gel. Now that you’ve stopped exercising, your stomach can handle those calories and needs them to start restoring your muscle glycogen—essentially the body’s instant fuel reservoirs.
Can I use GU Energy Gel for a strength workout or even yoga?
Sure. While GU Energy Gel was designed for endurance sports, it can be used anytime you need energy to fuel a workout. It can also serve as a 100-calorie pick-me-up if you’re dragging or simply need a snack to carry you through until your next meal.
How does the caffeine in GU Energy Gel help me?
GU Energy Gel comes in both caffeinated and non-caffeinated flavors. Strawberry Banana, Lemon Lime, Peanut Butter, and Root Beer do not have any caffeine in them. Mandarin Orange, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Outrage, Triberry, Tastefully Nude, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Salted Watermelon all have 20mg of caffeine per packet. GU’s Espresso Love, Caramel Macchiato, and Jet Blackberry flavors have 40mg of caffeine. Caffeine consumption during exercise improves performance in several ways: it sharpens focus and perks you up; but more importantly, it helps the body produce more power, reduce the pain of hard efforts, and may even tap fat for fuel during exercise. All of this prolongs your ability to exercise at a high intensity. We use just enough caffeine to jump start this benefit and no more.
Does GU Energy Gel freeze?
Yes, but well below zero. It does thicken in cold weather, so keep GU close to your body to keep it warm.
How long does GU Energy Gel take to work?
The fructose converts quickly into an energy molecule that your muscles can tap within minutes. The maltodextrin, which makes up 70-80% of the carbohydrate blend (depending on flavor), takes several minutes longer. Because of this delay, your muscles enjoy a steady stream of energy instead of one gigantic sugar rush and a corresponding crash.
Is GU Energy Gel safe for children?
Yes, if they’re playing sports, on a hike or just being active, GU Energy Gel will help kids just as much as it helps you. You’d probably want to keep them away from the flavors that contain caffeine; no need to make them more hyperactive.
Can my dog eat GU Energy Gel?
We don’t recommend it. Maltodextrin is corn-based and corn is not recommended for dogs—many are actually allergic to corn.
Is GU Energy Gel Kosher?
GU Energy Gel (Peanut Butter and Chocolate Peanut Butter are not certified Kosher) is kosher.
