Roctane is GU to a higher power.

Roctane products are created for your most extreme efforts or long-duration activities. In order to perform at your highest potential, you need a boosted supply of certain essential nutrients that’s both portable and easy to digest.

What’s the difference?

The biggest difference between Roctane Energy Gels and normal GU Energy Gels is more branch-chained amino acids (BCAAs) and the addition of the amino acids beta alanine and taurine.  Roctane Energy Drink Mix also has a boosted supply of BCAAs and includes beta alanine and taurine. Meanwhile Roctane Electrolyte Capsules are a highly portable way to help you fight dehydration with high levels of sodium, vitamin D, vitamin B6, and ginger root to help prevent nausea.

Rob Krar during his 2015 Western States 100 win

Ultrarunner Rob Krar likes to keep things simple. In fact, it’s one of his mantras.  “That’s why I choose Roctane Energy Drink Mix to fuel my pursuits. When you need to be dialed in and every second counts, this mix gets the job done, no fumbling required.  It plays a big role in all my athletic pursuits. Running, biking, skiing and hiking, training and racing, it’s rare to find me without this tool in my shed. GU has done the science, so I don’t have to think about it. Just drink and go, and go, and go…”

Roctane Energy Drink Mix delivers:

  • Branched-Chain Amino Acids that prevent mental fatigue and reduce muscle damage
  • Beta Alanine to help buffer acidity levels in your muscles to prevent soreness and reduce muscle fatigue

Bruckner Chase once swam 28 miles across the Monterey Bay

Bruckner Chase is an endurance waterman and once swam 28 miles across Monterey Bay.  GU Roctane Electrolyte Capsules are an essential part of his nutrition program during his aquatic adventures. “In or on the water if your arms aren’t moving you aren’t racing, so hydrating and fueling has to be fast and efficient.  Even those who claim to never get sea sick learn that race level exertion and even a little bump in the water makes it hard to consume and keep down even your favorite GU flavor.  Ginger has long been recognized as a homeopathic remedy for nausea, and when GU added the ingredient to the convenience of the Roctane Electrolyte Capsule, the end result is the ideal supplement for ocean based athletes and surf lifesavers.  During and after long ocean training days two to three Roctane Electrolyte Capsules have virtually eliminated the cramping and nausea that would hit me late in training or racing.”

Roctane Electrolyte Capsules deliver:

  • 350mg Sodium to supplement your electrolyte needs during long-duration activities in hot or humid conditions
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B6 and ginger root to help prevent nausea

  1. I never had your product until this weekend I did a beast Spartan race and I cramped up and someone gave me two gu packs greatly appreciated I’m a tru believer

    1. Hi Kathie,

OKG was removed because there wasn’t sufficient evidence to support its inclusion in sports nutrition products. It’s still used in clinical applications to treat trauma victims (burn, sepsis, etc.) but there was really only a handful of research studies in athletic (healthy) populations which haven’t been successfully replicated.

Bottom line: Not enough scientific evidence to support any of the claimed benefits for athletes.

  2. It appears on your website that your endorsements and marketing is geared towards Roctane being for long duration events. Is it appropriate for shorter more intense events? Such as one and a half hour mountain bike race ?

    1. Hi Nils – while Roctane products are great for longer events, the ingredients will also help during shorter events. One difference between Energy Gels and Roctane Energy Gels is more amino acids – and amino acids can help your muscles recovery even after shorter and more intense efforts!
