FAVORITE NUTRITION HACK
This isn’t exactly a “nutritional hack,” but it’s a hack, for sure. During a long bike ride I discovered myself with a slash in my tire and no patch to fix it. I’d used a dollar bill to patch something like this before, but didn’t have one available at that moment. But I did have a used GU packet, in my pocket waiting for a recycle opportunity. I put it inside my tire over the slash and finished my ride. It worked so well, I forgot all about it and rode that way until my next maintenance tire change. GU – serves me well in many ways!

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? WHAT'S YOUR WHY?
I started running at 42 years of age and doing triathlons at 48. I'm currently 80 years old and still racing and now hold the record for being the oldest female to complete (and win) the Ironman World Championship and the Ironman 70.3 (Half Ironman) World Championships. This was never my goal, but I'm proud of the accomplishment.

We have to age-but we do not have to grow old. As long as I take care of my body with smart workouts and good nutrition, I can continue to take on tough challenges. "It's never too late to be what you might have been." This is my guiding principle in my life.

HOW DO YOU DO GOOD IN YOUR COMMUNITY?
I am Founder & Director of Exceeding Expectations Foundation, a non-profit for at-risk kids in San Bernardino, CA. We use the sport of triathlon as the vehicle to teach kids the skills and attitudes they’ll need to do well in school and in life. Our primary goal is for each EE member to get a good education, which will give him/her the opportunity to better his/her life. I’ve been working kids in this program for 21 years – almost as long as I’ve been using GU.
