Energy Gels provide portable and easy-to-digest calories from carbohydrates that deliver immediate and sustained energy without the stomach distress.

GU Energy Gels use a combination of simple and complex carbohydrates. Carbs become the main source of energy as our bodies transition from sedentary to an active state and exercise intensity increases.

The body does have a limited carbohydrate supply, but not enough to sustain higher intensity activity for long periods of time. Thus, as you deplete your carb supply, performance suffers. You need energy in the form of carbohydrates to keep going in longer, more intense efforts.

A ROCTANE Energy Gel contains 3x the BCAAs and 2x the electrolytes compared to our original Energy Gels. They also contain the amino acids taurine (to help maintain heart contractility and improve cardiac output during long exercise sessions) and beta-alanine (to help promote formation of the intramuscular buffer carnosine, which can prevent cell damage). ROCTANE Energy Gels deliver the same combination of carbohydrates and same number of calories. ROCTANE Energy Gels are a key tool for high-intensity or prolonged activity when nutrient depletion and muscle damage occurs rapidly.

Carbohydrates are efficient energy, and we use a blend of carbs to deliver more energy into the bloodstream as efficiently as possible. Our system of dual-source carbohydrates provides an “express lane” for each carb to deliver energy to your body much quicker than a single source of carbs, which helps you avoid “the bonk” during training and racing.

We pack 100 calories into our Energy Gels because, in general, the body can digest roughly 120-240 calories per hour during exercise. If you tried to eat more, the body would divert blood from your muscles back to the gut to handle the excess food/calories. If your metabolism is slower, then one Energy Gel every 45 minutes works just fine. If you have a faster metabolism, try ingesting one Energy Gel every 30 minutes and see if it agrees with your digestion system. We always recommend practicing your nutrition plan to determine what works best for you.

Rip open the top and squeeze the entire packet into your mouth—don’t save half of it for later. It’s also completely appropriate to “sip” the Energy Gel over the course of a couple minutes rather than slamming the it all at once. You find 100 calories of carbohydrates in both ROCTANE Energy Gel and GU Energy Gel because there’s no reason to add more. The gut can only absorb so many calories at a time during exercise, especially when most of your blood is being delivered to your hard-working muscles. If you add too many calories during intense exercise, your body can’t send enough blood to your gut to digest the carbs, making your gut cramp, forcing you to slow down.

No. ROCTANE Energy Gel is designed to help provide added nutritional support for prolonged exercise, which is why there are additional amino acids and sodium. However, they have the same number of calories (100) per gel as our original Energy Gel.

ROCTANE contains more sodium than the original GU Energy Gel and sodium is the main electrolyte lost in sweat. Supplementation with sodium can help prevent cramping as well as minimize the chances of hyponatremia.

The additional amino acids in ROCTANE Energy Gel serve several important functions, including acting as a fuel source for working muscle, and helping promote muscle recovery following exercise. ROCTANE Energy Gel contains branched-chain amino acids that have been shown to help prevent central fatigue by competing with tryptophan for transport across the blood brain barrier. Incredible

I was a little skeptical of the point of Roctane when regular gels worked fine but the first time I tried them during a long run I was literally blown away at how much more noticeable of a difference it made in my performance, my energy, and kept my legs from fatiguing as quickly as they normally do

THE BEST FUEL

I just recently finished the Transrockies Run 2019 and can honestly say that the GU Roctane Gels are the reason I kept going. 120 miles with 20,000ft elev. were quite hard on my body, but not even once I bonked thanks to planning my nutrition with GU. One Roctane gel every hour, supported by the Grape and Summit Tea Energy Drink Mix in my vest bottles, along with BCAA + Roctane Electrolyte Capsules and a bladder full of water. Winning combination! I finished 5th in my age group with this stage race being only my second ULTRA.

A recovery run the day after a hilly race-Wow!!!

I am so impressed with these GU Roctane gels. I ran a hilly 15 Km race on July 1 ( 1 gel before, and 2 during-Blueberry Pomegranate flavour), and a friend asked me to go for a run today. I normally take the day after a hard race as a rest/active rest day, as I am so sore and tired.

I felt good enough to run and walk today. The pace wasn’t as quick, but more of a recovery run. I did my first day after race recovery run of 7 Km and walked almost 9 Km (4.5 WU, 4.5 CD). I can’t believe it!

I am going to try a Roctane gel before hill repeats on Wed to see how it affects my body then. This is super exciting!

I highly recommend these gels. I want to try some other flavours. I love the regular Gu Espresso Love. I need a coffee flavoured one of Roctane

Roctane Rocks!

Great stuff! I use the caffeinated and non-caffeinated roctanes. The extra aminos really help keep my lower body from getting really pissed off at me for my long runs/races, especially in warmer weather. I can't live without it!

Roctane Gels Roc'd My World

To celebrate the Summer Solstice 2016, we planned a hike/climb to the summit of Mt. St Helens (WA). I would be my first time and I was worried about cramping along the way because of the steep climb over 2 miles of boulders and 1 mile of pumice and ash. I had used the regular gels for training, but felt I needed more for this power hike/climb of 5.1 miles, 4500 ft. elevation gain to the crater of the mountain. Roctane did not disappoint! I stocked up on Roctane gels but only needed about 3 for the whole day. The extra amino acids, salts and caffeine in the Roctane gels helped me to keep my energy levels up without bonking and muscles from cramping. I was pleasantly surprised and so pleased. We had spectacular weather so I was able to enjoy my surroundings instead of worrying about my legs The flavors I tried: Vanilla Orange, Lemonade and Mandarin Orange were refreshingly delicious. Although it was a long day, I still had spring in my step at the very end of our hike back to the trailhead. I would highly recommend it to hikers, backpackers and climbers planning on long days, lots of miles and elevation gain on their adventures. I'm planning to go on multi-day backpacking adventures this summer and will definitely take some Roctane gels along.
