Rebecca Rusch is the Queen of Pain with a heart of gold. It doesn’t matter if Rebecca is pedaling through the night on an epic adventure across Italy, riding her bike up Africa’s legendary Mt. Kilimanjaro, or teaching clinics and camps at a #JoinTheRusch camp or clinic, she brings energy, positivity, and inspiration to whatever challenge she meets.

As a professional athlete for over three decades, the seven-time World Champion has continually tested her own limits, and shattered the glass ceiling in whatever sport she tackles. She redefined the team dynamics of adventure racing, has a first female ascent rock climbing El Capitan in Yosemite, river boarded down the Grand Canyon, and has given the men a run for their money in endurance mountain biking.

Rusch’s work extends beyond the start line, as the best-selling author of Rusch to Glory, event producer for Rebecca’s Private Idaho, motivational speaker, firefighter, and cycling advocate. Additionally, she has raised over $100,000 for bike-related charities through her adventures and events. In 2017, a full-length feature film was released, following Rebecca’s very personal and epic journey along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Rebecca’s 1,200-mile journey to find her father’s Vietnam War crash site was documented by Red Bull Media House, which produced Blood Road.

2018 GOALS

Racing, expeditions, launching Rusch Academy, Rebecca’s Private Idaho..I’m excited about my own adventures as well as hosting adventures for others!


  • I’m a part time firefighter / EMT with Ketchum Fire Department. Going on 11 years.
  • Mountain biking used to be my least favorite sport.
  • Writing my book Rusch To Glory was a million times harder than any athletic feat I’ve attempted.
  • Doing a TEDx talk was probably the second hardest thing I’ve done.
  • I’ve never had a five-year or any sort of long term plan in my life.
  • I lived out of my 1975 Ford Bronco (and on friend’s couches) for years.

For fat bike races, I keep GU Chews and Gels in my bar mitts so they don’t freeze and I have easy access to grab them with my hands. If the nutrition is not at my fingertips, I’m less likely to eat it.

For races with big crowds at the start like Leadville and Dirty Kanza, I use a CamelBak for the first leg because it’s too hard to reach down a grab a bottle in those situations. I can stay on top of my early race hydration by being able to access fluids more easily with a CamelBak.

For really intense, “shorter” races where I’m on the rivet at a high output for most of the time, I like to use primarily liquid calories like GU Roctane because the digestion and absorption is easier. It’s also much simpler to drink calories when you are breathing hard than it is to chew.
